NGF Mourns Victims of Niger Flood

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic flooding in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, which has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction.
In a statement issued on Friday by the NGF Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the forum said it was devastated by the scale of the disaster.
“The Nigeria Governors’ Forum stands in solidarity with Governor Usman Bago, the government, and the people of Niger State in the wake of the devastating flood that has wreaked havoc in Mokwa,” AbdulRazaq stated.
Reports indicate that no fewer than 21 people lost their lives, while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the flood.
“We are deeply shocked by the extent of the flooding and the resulting loss of lives and properties,” the NGF said.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirm our support for the state government during this difficult time.”
The forum also commended the swift response by the Niger State Government and emergency agencies in providing relief and assistance to affected residents.
“This disaster is yet another stark reminder of the realities of climate change and its growing impact on our communities,” the statement continued. “As leaders, we remain committed to working with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other relevant bodies to strengthen disaster preparedness and support affected citizens.”
