Nigeria Achieves Energy Milestone as Daily Gas Production Hits 7.59BSCFD, Gas Flaring Drops to 7.16%
Nigeria’s daily gas production surged to 7.59 billion standard cubic feet per day (BSCFD) in July 2025, marking a significant boost in the country’s energy output.
According to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the achievement coincided with a major reduction in gas flaring, which dropped to 7.16%, setting the nation on track towards its 2030 zero-flare commitment.
The Commission announced the development in a weekend press statement, saying:
“Nigeria has achieved a rare energy milestone as gas flaring fell to 7.16% in July 2025, even as daily gas production rose to 7.59 billion standard cubic feet per day (BSCFD).”
NUPRC explained that the simultaneous rise in production and decline in flaring highlights its regulatory drive to increase output while protecting the environment.

Data from the agency revealed that Nigeria’s gas industry has sustained steady growth over the past three years. The July 2025 daily average of 7.59 BSCFD represents an 8.58% increase compared to the 6.99 BSCFD recorded in 2024 and a 9.84% rise from the 6.91 BSCFD posted in 2023.
Despite higher production, flaring has consistently declined—from 7.55% in 2024 and 7.38% in 2023, down to the 7.16% recorded in July 2025.
The Commission emphasized that this progress reflects its commitment to ending routine flaring by 2030, while positioning Nigeria as a competitive player in the global gas market.
