Nigerian Army Destroys Hideout of Notorious Bandit Leader Konyo Mbise in Benue
In a significant breakthrough against organized crime in Benue State, troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with other security agencies, have stormed and dismantled notorious bandit camps linked to the bandit leader Konyo Mbise around Akwaza in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.
The operation, by the 72 Special Forces Battalion of OPWS, targeted identified bandit camps associated with Konyo Mbise in Konyo Gbise around Akwaza.
Recovered items from the operation include:
One Submachine Gun (SMG) with a magazine, a locally fabricated rifle with a magazine, 7.62mm Special Ammunition, a Rifle Butt and Rifle Barrel, 9mm Ammunition, Three POS Machines, two Generating Sets, a Mobile Phone, electrical Cables, a Painting Machine, seven Solar Panels, half a bag of suspected cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) and different portraits of bandit leaders
Major General Moses Gara, Commander of JTF OPWS, commended the troops for the successful operation and urged them to maintain pressure on all criminal elements threatening peace and security in the state.
He also called on the people of Benue to support military operations by providing credible information on criminal activities to security agencies.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements within the OPWS Area of Operation and to ensure a safe farming season in Benue State.
Konyo Mbise is considered a successor to the late Terwase Akwaza, alias “Gana,” a notorious gang leader who terrorized the Sankera axis of Benue State before his death in 2020.
The dismantling of Mbise’s hideout marks a significant stride in the fight against banditry and organized crime in the region.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
