Nigerian Inspector-General Orders Policemen to Vacate Lagos’ Ijeh Barracks Within Four Weeks
The Nigerian Police Force has issued a directive for all occupants of the Ijeh Police Barracks in Lagos State to vacate the premises within four weeks. This order is part of a larger plan to redevelop several police barracks across the state.
According to an earlier official statement, the redevelopment project will cover various barracks, including Ijeh Police Barracks, Bourdillion Barracks in Falomo, Police Mounted Troops in Ribadu, Ikoyi, Alausa Police Barracks on Obafemi Awolowo Way in Ikeja, Federal Highway Patrol Barracks in Yaba, and Iponri Police Barracks in Surulere. The directive also notes that compensation for verified occupants will begin immediately to facilitate the demolition of dilapidated structures, making way for the construction of new facilities.
A wireless message from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, addressed to all residents of the Ijeh Police Barracks, confirmed that they must vacate the premises by November 10, 2024. The message emphasized that the compensation process has been completed and warned residents to comply with the order within the given timeframe.
The notice also directed the Provost at the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos to ensure strict enforcement of the directive.
