Nigerian Police Enforce Security Measures Ahead of Christmas in Plateau State

In preparation for the upcoming Christmas celebrations, the Nigerian Police Force has announced a series of security measures in Plateau State aimed at ensuring the safety of lives and property. Among the directives are a ban on night grazing, farming activities, and the operation of commercial motorcycles in certain areas As from December 23, 2024, to January 3, 2025.
The decision, according to the State Police Command, is part of efforts to curtail rising security threats, including banditry, cattle rustling, and other criminal activities often exacerbated by unrestricted movement during the festive season. The measures are also intended to foster peaceful coexistence and reduce tensions in rural communities.
In a statement issued by the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, the command emphasized the importance of these actions in maintaining law and order. “We urge residents to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies and abide by the directives to ensure a peaceful celebration,” the statement read.
The police further assured the public of heightened surveillance and patrols across the state, particularly in areas identified as potential hotspots. Security personnel have been instructed to act professionally and respect the rights of citizens while enforcing these regulations.
The ban on commercial motorcycles, often linked to the movement of criminal elements, is expected to mitigate security risks. Similarly, restrictions on night grazing and farming aim to address conflicts between farmers and herders, which have historically escalated during the holiday season.
Residents have been advised to report suspicious activities promptly to the authorities. The police also reiterated their commitment to working with local vigilantes and community leaders to strengthen security during the festivities.
As Plateau State gears up for Christmas, these measures underline the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring a secure environment for all.
