Nigerians To Pay more, As The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) unveils plans to introduce a revised tariff for the telecom sector.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced its intention to introduce a new tariff structure for the telecommunications industry. The revised tariff plans are scheduled to be unveiled on December 13, 2024.
This announcement was made by the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Maida Waida, during an interactive session held in Abuja. Dr. Waida was represented at the event by the Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka.
“On December 13, 2024, the new tariff structure will replace the initially proposed date of October 27,” Muoka stated. “We have incorporated input from stakeholders during the process. As part of the changes, operators will now be limited to a maximum of seven tariff plans. This measure aims to provide relief to telecom consumers and address misconceptions about the use of data and airtime.”
The NCC has been actively conducting awareness campaigns through advertisements and advocacy efforts to inform the public about these changes.
Addressing concerns about data depletion, the NCC clarified that investigations have revealed consumer misconceptions. “Following an in-depth analysis and an audit by a reputable firm, it was found that data usage varies significantly across different Android devices,” the NCC noted. “As a consumer-focused regulator, we have been raising awareness to help users better understand their data consumption patterns.”
Additionally, the NCC has directed telecommunications operators to update their contact details by January 9, 2025. This directive is part of the commission’s efforts to enhance regulatory oversight, strengthen industry processes, and improve Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
