Nine Feared Dead in Bomb Blast at Borno Bus Stop

At least nine people are feared dead following the detonation of an improvised explosive device (IED) at a bus stop in Mairari village, located in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.

The explosion, which occurred around 11 a.m. on Saturday, reportedly injured several others.

According to local sources, the victims were waiting to board commercial vehicles when the device exploded.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.

“It is unfortunate that nine of my resilient constituents were killed by planted IEDs while waiting to board vehicles at a local bus stop in Mairari village,” he said.

“May Allah grant their souls Aljanatul Firdaus. I also pray for the swift recovery of those receiving treatment in Monguno and Maiduguri.”

Lawan explained that Mairari, which had previously been resettled under civil authority, has once again been deserted due to ongoing attacks by Boko Haram and its splinter group, ISWAP.

“Many displaced residents who now live in Monguno, Maiduguri, and other parts of Guzamala return to Mairari to farm. Unfortunately, terrorists monitoring their movements planted the IEDs that led to this tragic incident,” he added.

The Speaker extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and those injured and urged the military and other security agencies to intensify efforts to restore safety in Guzamala—particularly in Gudumbali, the local government headquarters, and Mairari village, which remain under militant control and without civil governance.
