Nine persons arrested over open defecation in Lagos

No fewer than nine individuals caught engaging in open defecation in the Berger area of the state have been arrest by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps

The state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made the disclosure in a post on social media on Saturday.

He wrote, “Nine individuals were arrested for open urination and defecation at Berger last night.”

Wahab had earlier disclosed that 17 individuals were arrested on Thursday night at Berger for open urination, defecation, and not using the pedestrian bridge.

The state government’s zero-tolerance stance on open defecation is part of its broader efforts to maintain a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for residents.

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources also commenced cleanup of the Ojodu-Berger highway median as part of its effort to end open defecation.
