Nothing Like Coalition, Only Our PDP Can Challenge The APC Government – Wike
Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has consistently dismissed the idea of a new opposition coalition, particularly the one adopting the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as a viable challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Wike’s core argument is that there is “no coalition” of substance. He believes that the opposition has “decimated themselves” and that only the PDP, if it gets its act together and organizes itself well, has the capacity to challenge the APC.
He has launched scathing attacks on members of the new coalition, describing them as “failed and expired politicians” and “desperate fallback for failed political actors” who were denied control of the PDP.
Wike has gone as far as accusing former Senate President David Mark of attempting to hijack the PDP leadership before allegedly moving to become the interim chairman of the ADC-led coalition.
Wike frequently questions the credibility and sincerity of those in the coalition, pointing to their past political records and accusing them of only being concerned about power when they are out of it.
He also suggests that some members of the coalition are there out of personal frustration or political irrelevance.
In essence, Wike’s view is that the new coalition is a fractured and opportunistic gathering, lacking the cohesion and widespread support necessary to unseat an incumbent government.
He maintains that the PDP, despite its internal challenges, remains the only structured opposition party with a genuine chance in 2027, provided it can resolve its issues and present a united front.
