NYSC Members Urged to Take Frontline Role in Ending Insecurity,

In an impassioned call that resonated deeply with the dreams of a safer Nigeria, the Northeast Zonal Coordinator of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), Major General Abubakar Adamu (retd.), has urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to take an active role in the fight against insecurity across the country.
Addressing corps members at the NYSC orientation camp in Bauchi on Tuesday, General Adamu described Nigerian youths as the heartbeat of the nation, capable of bringing lasting change if they rise to confront the threats of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cultism, political thuggery, and other security challenges head-on.
“With the involvement of our vibrant youths, especially corps members, in tackling the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, I believe insecurity will become a thing of the past in no distant time,” he said, his voice carrying both urgency and optimism.
He noted that the NCCSALW, established in 2021 under the Office of the National Security Adviser to the President, serves as the institutional framework for regulating and controlling the spread of arms in Nigeria — a menace that has fuelled violence and instability in many communities.
General Adamu painted a vivid picture of the stakes, reminding the corps members that their service year was not just about community development projects, but also about becoming change agents in a nation yearning for peace. “You are the hope of this country,” he stressed, “and with your energy, education, and patriotism, we can disarm the forces threatening our future.”
The atmosphere at the orientation camp was charged with a mix of pride and responsibility, as many corps members nodded in agreement, some whispering among themselves about how they could play their part. For these young Nigerians, the call was more than a speech — it was a challenge to step into history as defenders of their nation’s unity and peace.
