The Ondo State Police Command has taken six individuals into custody for allegedly deceiving members of the public by impersonating pastors and performing fabricated miracles in Idanre.
The suspects — Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola, and Ademola — were arrested in Idanre, the administrative centre of the Idanre Local Government Area, where they reportedly carried out their fraudulent operations.
Police spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the arrests were made following a well-coordinated, intelligence-driven operation conducted by tactical units of the command in partnership with Community Safety Officers (CSOs).
According to police findings, the group allegedly functioned as an organised syndicate, with each member playing assigned roles to project an image of authenticity. They were said to have preyed on the faith and emotional vulnerabilities of unsuspecting victims by promising supernatural solutions to financial hardships, illnesses, and personal difficulties.
Initial investigations suggest the suspects staged fake healings and spiritual interventions to gain the confidence of their targets before collecting money under false pretences.
Jimoh added that investigations are ongoing to establish the full number of victims, determine the total financial losses involved, and track down any additional accomplices who may still be at large.
The suspects remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned once investigations are concluded.
The police further advised residents to remain vigilant, verify religious claims before making payments, and promptly report any suspicious gatherings or activities to the nearest police station.
