Ondo Youths Set Police Station Ablaze Over Murder

A group of enraged youths have reportedly set fire to a police divisional headquarters in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The violent protest erupted following the alleged torture and death of a young man in police custody.

Although the incident occurred on Saturday evening, full details remain unclear as of Sunday when this report was filed.

According to sources in Ifon, a border town near Edo State, the young man’s death triggered outrage among residents and friends of the deceased, leading to the attack on the police facility.

One of the sources, speaking anonymously, revealed that the crisis stemmed from an incident on Valentine’s Day. Upon learning of the victim’s demise, angry protesters stormed the police station and overpowered officers on duty before setting the building on fire.

Confirming the incident, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, stated that additional police officers had been deployed to Ifon to restore order. She also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, was en route to the town to prevent further violence.
