One person has been confirmed dead and 10 others rescued after a two-storey building collapsed along Obafemi Awolowo Road, Ota-Ona, in the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, trapping 14 occupants beneath the rubble. As of the time of this report, 10 people have been rescued, while three remain unaccounted for.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), one of the initially missing occupants was later found dead during the rescue operation.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined.

However, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the structure was an uncompleted two-storey building located behind a bungalow, built on approximately 648 square metres of land.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, through spokesperson Amodu Shakiru, said rescue operations were ongoing.

“A total of 14 people were in the building. Ten adult males, aged between 28 and 35, were rescued and taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment,” the statement read.
