A fatal crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has left one person dead and nine others injured.
The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Route Commander Oluwadamilola Jayeola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.
She said the crash occurred around 6:55 a.m. at New Garage and involved a white Iveco truck (registration MEK 34 XC) and a white Toyota commercial bus (ENU 814 XJ).
“Sadly, one male passenger died, while nine others — eight men and one woman — sustained injuries. No passenger escaped unhurt. FRSC rescue teams evacuated the injured to the Emergency Centre, Ojota, and Gbagada General Hospital, while the deceased was taken to Real Divine Hospital Mortuary, Ibafo,” she stated.
Jayeola added that the accident scene was promptly cleared to restore normal traffic, while the Ojodu Abiodun Police Division has taken custody of the vehicles. Preliminary investigations linked the crash to speeding and road obstruction.
Lagos Sector Commander Kehinde Hamzat commiserated with the bereaved family and wished the injured a swift recovery.
He cautioned motorists against speeding, especially during the ember months, noting that it remains a leading cause of preventable crashes.
Hamzat also reassured road users of FRSC’s continued commitment to highway safety and the protection of lives and property.
