OPay Expands N1.2bn Scholarship Programme to Benue State University

Nigeria’s leading financial technology company, OPay, has extended its N1.2 billion, 10-year scholarship programme to students of Benue State University, making the institution the seventh beneficiary of the nationwide educational initiative.
The expansion reflects Nigeria’s leading financial technology company, OPay’s continued commitment to youth empowerment and the promotion of academic excellence across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. According to the company, the scholarship aims to ease the financial burden on students and foster their academic and personal growth.
“Our goal is to support these future leaders at Benue State University and beyond. Education is central to national development, and this scholarship is one of the ways we’re helping young Nigerians achieve their potential,” said Dauda Gotring, Managing Director and CEO of OPay.
The scholarship programme is specifically designed to assist talented yet financially disadvantaged students across a range of disciplines by covering tuition and related educational costs.
Reacting to the development, Professor Tor Iorapuu, Vice Chancellor (Admin) of Benue State University, described the initiative as a transformative step toward inclusive and accessible education.
“This generous support from OPay is a milestone in our mission to make education available to all. It offers critical financial relief and empowers students to focus on their academic goals without distraction,” Iorapuu said.
OPay noted that the scholarship scheme has already been implemented in six other universities this year and reaffirmed plans to expand the initiative to more institutions in the near future.
The company emphasized that this effort is part of its broader corporate social responsibility and its belief in education as a catalyst for sustainable development and societal progress.
The beneficiaries, OPay added, symbolize not just individual achievement but the aspirations of entire families and communities.
