Outrage as Taraba Students Sit for WAEC Exam at Night, Parents Demand Explanation

In a highly unusual and troubling development, some students in Taraba State sat for their West African Examination Council (WAEC) English Language exam late into the night, despite the original schedule indicating an 8 a.m. start.

As of the time this report was filed, WAEC had not provided any official explanation for the delay.

Parents who arrived at various centres in search of their children were shocked to learn that the exam had only just begun — hours after it was meant to be concluded. Many described the situation as deeply irresponsible and said it amounted to unnecessary hardship for the students.

They criticized the examination body for failing to postpone the paper, especially considering that the pupils are expected to sit for another subject the following day.

“They should have postponed the exam instead of subjecting the children to hardship,” one parent said.

The parents, visibly frustrated, noted that such a situation had never occurred before in the state and called on the Federal Government to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.

“Such had never been experienced in the state.”

“They appealed to the Federal Government to punish those responsible for the act and curtail such from repeating itself.”

The incident has since sparked public concern, with many questioning WAEC’s logistics and planning processes.
