Over 100 Pupils In Abuja Community Forced Out Of School Over Uninhabitable Structures
Over 100 students have stopped attending LEA Primary School Ledi 2 in Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT Abuja, due to the deteriorating state of the school. The facility suffers from broken-down classrooms, leaking roofs, and a severe lack of furniture, making it unsuitable for effective learning and forcing children to abandon their education.
Monitng, a civic technology platform dedicated to public accountability, sounded the alarm on Tuesday about the dire condition of the school. The platform urged immediate intervention from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe. Through its #ActNow and #FixOurSchools campaign, Monitng highlighted the urgency of the situation, calling for swift action to safeguard the students’ educational prospects.
“This is the unfortunate state of LEA Primary School Ledi 2,” Monitng stated, pointing out the urgent need for repairs. Ilevbaoje Uadamen, founder of Monitng, criticized the government’s approach, stating, “Rather than prioritizing education, the government often focuses on projects that fail to address the core needs of citizens. This leads to misplaced budget priorities.”
Monitng emphasized the importance of aligning government spending with citizens’ needs, especially in the education sector. The platform argued that essential services like schooling should take precedence in budget allocation to promote community progress and secure the future of young people.
The statement continued, “Due to broken-down classrooms, leaking roofs, and lack of furniture, over 100 pupils have stopped attending school. We urge @GovWike and @IretiKingibe to address this critical issue for the children’s future. #ActNow #FixOurSchools.”
