
28 Arrested Over Yelwata Killings – IGP Egbetokun Confirms
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the arrest of 28 individuals suspected to be connected to the brutal killings in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Speaking during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the IGP disclosed that the arrests followed intensified efforts by security forces to apprehend perpetrators of the violence that claimed 47 lives in the troubled community.

He assured Nigerians that the police remain in firm control of the situation and are actively pursuing remaining suspects still at large. “We are not overwhelmed,” Egbetokun declared.
“We are steadily mopping up illegal light and small arms across the country and reinforcing our border patrol operations to prevent the influx of irregular migrants and criminal elements.”
Egbetokun further revealed that out of the 28 suspects initially arrested, two were later cleared after it was determined they were used as bait to capture 26 of the suspected masterminds.
He also confirmed that the suspects would be arraigned soon, including 22 others apprehended in Jos in connection with the murder of nine wedding-bound passengers en route to Quanpan.
