Abacha varsity shuts female hostel over immorality

The management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has ordered the immediate closure of the Al-Ansar Indabo female hostels located at Hotoro and UDB Road in Kano due to safety and disciplinary issues.

This directive was announced in a statement released on Monday by Dr. Hamza Garba, the university’s Vice President of Campus Life. The university also withdrew its official approval for the use of the hostels, citing multiple violations of its student code of conduct.

According to the statement, the decision aligns with MAAUN’s commitment to providing safe, secure, and morally sound accommodations for its students.

“I am directed by the management to inform our esteemed parents and students that the university has revoked its approval for the Al-Ansar Indabo female hostels located at Hotoro and UDB Road,” the statement read.

Dr. Garba explained that the hostels failed to meet the university’s standards for private student accommodations. Reported infractions include immoral behavior, inadequate water and electricity supply, student violence, unauthorized movement at night, and the sharing of facilities with unidentified tenants.

“These conditions present a serious risk to the safety and well-being of our students,” he stated.

All affected students are required to vacate the hostels immediately after their current semester examinations. The university has also warned against any further association with the facilities for safety and security reasons.

MAAUN assured that it is working closely with security agencies to enforce the directive. Parents and students are encouraged to contact the Office of the Vice President, Campus Life, at vp-campuslife@maaun.edu.ng for assistance with finding approved and secure housing options.
