Panic in Lessel: Youths Halt Suspected Herdsmen as Attack Rumors Spread
Tension is mounting in Lessel, Ushongo LGA of Benue State, after local youths intercepted a bus carrying suspected Fulani herdsmen amid rumors of an impending attack.
According to eyewitnesses, the youths stopped the bus to inspect its contents, but the occupants refused to cooperate. Before the situation escalated, police officers arrived and took both the suspects and the vehicle into custody.
Controversy flared when it was revealed that the Divisional Police Officer, DSP Abubakar Abba, quietly moved the suspects out of Lessel allegedly to Makurdi while leaving the bus and its unknown contents at the local station. This move sparked suspicion and fueled public anxiety, especially following an earlier viral audio message warning of a potential herdsmen attack on Ushongo.
