Petrol Tanker Crashes, Catches Fire in Oyo

A petrol tanker carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) exploded on Monday after tumbling along the Iseyin/Oyo Road, near NICO Farm in the Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State.

According to findings by FCNN the tanker, with registration number Lagos LM62XP, lost control while in motion, veered off the road into a nearby ditch, and burst into flames.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in Ibadan. He said the fire service received the distress call at exactly 10:46 a.m., prompting an immediate response.

“Our firemen, led by PFS1 Azeez, swiftly mobilised to the scene. On arrival, it was confirmed that the tanker had lost control and somersaulted into the ditch before igniting,” Akinwande said.

He added that firefighters used chemical foam to suppress the fire, successfully preventing a major explosion and damage to nearby structures or vehicles.
