Petrol Tanker Explodes in Ibadan After Brake Failure

A petrol-laden tanker carrying 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) exploded on Thursday evening at Celica Junction along the new Ife Expressway in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred after the tanker suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle reportedly rammed into a Toyota Prado SUV and another car before toppling and catching fire.
“The tanker hit a Prado and another car, then fell and exploded,” one witness recounted. “The fire affected the vehicles, but fortunately, no lives were lost.”
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said the service received the emergency call at exactly 6:27 p.m.
“Our firefighters responded swiftly and, in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service, applied chemical foam compound to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby NNPC filling station and surrounding structures,” Akinwande said.
