Plateau Police arrest 859 suspects, rescue 46 kidnap victims, and recover weapons in 2024.

The Nigeria Police Force in Plateau State has arrested 859 individuals for various crimes, including armed robbery and kidnapping, throughout 2024. Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina shared this update on Friday while addressing the media in Jos, the state capital.

Adesina provided a breakdown of the year’s crime statistics. A total of 794 cases were reported, 415 cases were charged to court, and 46 kidnap victims were rescued. The police also seized 27 firearms and 115 rounds of ammunition.

During the briefing, 27 suspects were paraded, including members of cult groups. One significant arrest involved Emmanuel Atu, 24, who was caught on December 14, 2024, in Bassa Local Government Area. Police found a revolver pistol with five rounds of live ammunition in his possession. Atu admitted to being a member of the Eiye Black Axe Confraternity.

On December 15, 2024, police received information about a gang of armed robbers in Laplak Village, Langtang North LGA. Acting on the tip-off, a police team led by the DPO of Langtang North arrested four suspects: Lohkur Ponfa, Monday Seljum, Nansak Ndam, and Nanbut Napdong. Police recovered an AK-47 rifle with 13 rounds of ammunition from them. The suspects confessed to several armed robberies, including a robbery on August 5, 2024, in which they targeted a man named Chuku Emeka.

The police also investigated the murder of 40-year-old Rabiu Abdullahim, whose body was found on November 22, 2024. Abdullahim had gone missing three days earlier, and his decomposed body showed signs of violence. Police arrested Aliyu Lawal, 31, in connection with the crime. Lawal confessed to killing Abdullahim and abandoning his body at a mining stream.

All suspects will be charged in court once investigations are completed.
