Police arrest car theft suspect using master keys in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a notorious car theft suspect who specialized in using master keys to steal vehicles and tricycles.
In a statement on Monday, the command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect, Chidi Nwoye, 24, was apprehended by operatives of the Isiowulu Police Division in collaboration with local vigilantes. He was intercepted along Minaj Road, Obosi, in the early hours of August 22 while operating a stolen tricycle.
Ikenga explained that Nwoye confessed during interrogation to stealing vehicles and tricycles from their parked positions using master keys.
Items recovered from him include a Hyundai Tucson with registration number PH 725 AAA without an ignition key, a tricycle with registration number NSH 051 UD also without an ignition key, eight assorted mobile phones, and a black face-cap with the inscription “AVG Special Force.” Also recovered were a battle axe, a driver’s license belonging to one Ikechukwu (surname withheld), two bunches of keys, four master keys, two ATM cards, a Permanent Voter’s Card, a vehicle tracking device, a sensor, a USB drive, an ear pod, a damaged fuse, a vehicle booklet, beads, improvised wires, and an ignition device for tricycles.
The police further recovered a brown sling bag containing personal effects such as a pair of red canvas shoes, some money, and an iPhone watch.

According to Ikenga, investigations have been extended to the suspect’s hideout for possible recovery of more stolen items.
“The Command urges members of the public whose belongings may have been recently stolen to visit Isiowulu Police Station for identification and recovery. The suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” he added.
