Police arrest four for vandalising school transformer in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested four suspects for allegedly vandalising a transformer at the Government Girls Secondary School, Bunza, in Bunza Local Government Area.

The suspects were identified as Sanusi Muhammad and Ibrahim Lawal from Sokoto State, as well as Tasi’u Abubakar and Tasi’u Abdullahi from Zamfara State. They were apprehended after the Divisional Police Officer in Bunza, working with local vigilantes, responded swiftly to the incident.

Police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said in a statement on Saturday that the suspects stormed the school around 3 a.m. on September 10. They reportedly tied up the school’s watchman before dismantling the transformer using chainsaws and other tools.

According to Abubakar, a black Toyota Corolla with registration number KNT-359-SN, believed to have been used in the operation, was recovered at the scene alongside vandalised armoured cable wires and the equipment used. Two suspects were arrested immediately, while operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi later tracked down the fleeing gang members.

The police said the suspects are in custody and will be charged in court soon.

Commending the quick intervention of the Bunza DPO and local vigilantes, Commissioner of Police Bello M. Sani emphasised the importance of community-police collaboration in fighting crime.

He assured residents of the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements while urging the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information to security agencies.

Meanwhile, on September 10, 2025, the Command also arrested six suspects in Ka’oje town, Bagudo Local Government Area, over the theft of gold jewellery worth over ₦109.5 million.

The case drew widespread attention after the arrest of Ibrahim Abubakar, a serving officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, who confessed to his involvement.

Police disclosed that the stolen items—belonging to the family of Hajiya Amina Hassan Bello—comprised five necklaces, nine bangles, and four rings weighing 782.7 grams.

Investigations revealed that the officer and his accomplices conspired to sell the items and launder the proceeds through land purchases.
