Police Arrest Two Suspects in Connection with Woman’s Murder, Burning in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two key suspects in the gruesome murder and burning of a young woman in the Gangare area, near the canal behind Mile 12 Market, on Saturday.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Monday. According to him, the victim—originally from Nasarawa State—was allegedly attacked and set ablaze in a premeditated act orchestrated by her estranged boyfriend and his accomplices.
Hundeyin clarified that, contrary to rumors, the incident was not related to any act of blasphemy.
“The victim had been residing in the area with relatives from the northern region.
While her exact occupation remains unknown, investigations have revealed that she is not Yoruba, as some reports have suggested,” he said.
The attack reportedly stemmed from a long-standing conflict between the woman and her former boyfriend, who is currently on the run after allegedly attempting to forcibly rekindle their relationship.
He, along with others—two of whom are now in custody—allegedly conspired and carried out the attack.
The arrested suspects are being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department, where they are cooperating with investigators in efforts to track down the remaining individuals involved.
Hundeyin assured the public that peace has been restored in the affected area and urged residents to go about their activities without fear.
