Police Assure Lagos Residents: No Cover-Up in Officer Misconduct

Police Assure Lagos Residents: No Cover-Up in Officer Misconduct
On Saturday, the Lagos State Police Command reassured residents that any misconduct by its officers will not be concealed. This promise follows a viral video depicting an incident at Omole Estate, where security personnel were seen preventing uniformed police officers from accessing the area.
Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the officers involved in the incident were not from the Lagos State Police Command.
Hundeyin said the uniformed police officers were part of a police escort and protection detail from outside Lagos.
The spokesman noted that despite this, the obstruction of law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties is illegal and will not be tolerated.
He added that such acts of interference are punishable under Nigerian law and warned that those who obstruct police officers could face legal consequences.
Hundeyin also claimed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, was disappointed that Omole Estate’s management chose to share the incident on social media to cast aspersions in the minds of the public rather than reporting it to the relevant authorities.
“We urge the Omole estate management and residents to report every incident of concern to the police and also follow up on proper investigation of such incidents and the actions taken against such officers instead of resorting to self-help,” he added.
