A suspected armed robber was shot dead by operatives of the Niger State Police Command during a gunfight along the Abuja-Kaduna Road on Monday.

The operation, conducted in collaboration with military personnel on routine patrol, led to a confrontation with a group of suspected robbers.

During the exchange of gunfire, one of the suspects was killed, while others fled the scene with gunshot wounds, according to a statement by the state police spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun.

The deceased’s body has been deposited at the Sabon-Wuse General Hospital morgue.

A wooden, carved replica of an AK-47 rifle, along with a mobile phone, a SIM card, and charms tied to the suspect’s waist, were recovered at the scene. The phone is currently being analyzed to aid in tracking down other members of the gang.
