Police Launch Manhunt for Katsina Gunmen, Rescue 11 Kidnap Victims

The Katsina State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for armed gunmen following the successful rescue of 11 kidnapped victims during a gunfight on Sunday night.
According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Aliyu, a joint security patrol team—including police officers, military personnel, Department of State Services (DSS) agents, Operation Sharan Daji operatives, members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, and local vigilantes—intercepted the armed bandits along the Danmusa to Mara Dangeza village road in Danmusa Local Government Area during a routine patrol.
The operatives engaged the suspects in a fierce exchange of gunfire, ultimately forcing the gunmen to flee and abandon their captives.
“On June 8, 2025, at about 10:30 p.m., a joint security team, while on patrol in Danmusa LGA, successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued 11 victims—nine females and two males—after confronting the armed bandits,” Aliyu stated. “The assailants, who had abducted victims from various locations across the state, were overpowered by the superior firepower and tactics of the operatives.”
The rescued victims have been identified as; Isah Isma’il (male) – Damawa Village, Kankara LGA, Zainab Musa (female, 12) – Damawa Village, Kankara LGA, Jamila Musa (female, 45) – Damawa Village, Kankara LGA, Abikara Isah (female, 12) – Damawa Village, Kankara LGA, Shaawa Sani (female, 35) – Damawa Village, Kankara LGA, Hauwa’u Mujitafa (female, 25) – Damawa Village, Kankara LGA, Hajara Sani (female, 23) – Damawa Village, Kankara LGA, Musa Suleman (male, 15) – Bakan Village, Musawa LGA, Zahariya Nasiru (female, 17) – Danmusa LGA, Zahara Isah (female, 18) – Damawa Village, Kankara LGA, Maijidda Fahat (female, 30) – Danmusa LGA
Aliyu added that investigations are underway and efforts to track down the fleeing suspects are in progress.
Commending the security personnel for their bravery, the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, reiterated the command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and criminal activities in the state.
He also called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
