Police Uncover Fake Soft Drinks Factory in Anambra, Arrest Suspect

The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered an illegal factory producing fake soft drinks in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, stormed the facility on September 3, 2025, dismantling its operations and arresting a 48-year-old suspect, identified as Chigozie Okafor. Several cartons of fake drinks branded as “Iyi Obeleagu Juice” were recovered.

Police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, said the products were being manufactured without approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and posed serious health risks to both adults and children.

According to him, Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a full-scale investigation to apprehend other accomplices and warned criminals engaged in such activities to desist immediately.

The command noted that illegal factories producing fake and substandard consumables remain a major public health concern in the state.
