Suspended Lawmaker’s Lawyer Alleges State-Sponsored Recall Amid Sexual Harassment Claims Against Senate President
Victor Giwa, the legal representative of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has accused the Kogi State Government of orchestrating a politically motivated recall campaign against her. According to Giwa, the recall is being spearheaded by Charity Omole, a senior aide to Governor Usman Ododo, under the guise of constituent dissatisfaction.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, was recently suspended from the Senate for alleged misconduct following a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The senator had accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and abuse of office, a claim that has sparked significant controversy.
On Monday, March 24, 2025, Omole led a group of constituents to submit a recall petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a move Giwa insists is a direct attack orchestrated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
“The recall process is nothing more than a fraudulent political witch-hunt,” Giwa argued during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily. He asserted that such a process is arduous and rarely succeeds unless manipulated.
“The lady leading the recall effort is a high-ranking government official, not an independent constituent. This alone shows that the process is not genuine but state-sponsored,” Giwa claimed.
The Kogi State Government has yet to respond to these allegations. However, critics suggest that the recall effort is a retaliatory move against Akpoti-Uduaghan for her explosive allegations against the Senate President. The development has deepened political tensions in Kogi and could set a dangerous precedent for lawmakers who challenge the establishment.
