There was panic on Sunday when a passenger train traveling along the Abuja-Kaduna rail line derailed near Jere Station, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded. The incident, which occurred in the afternoon, sparked fear among passengers who were forced to remain on board for hours before emergency assistance arrived. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and initial reports suggest that all passengers escaped without serious injuries.

Eyewitnesses described the moment as tense, noting that the sudden derailment caused confusion and anxiety, particularly among families and first-time travelers. Some passengers were seen making frantic phone calls to loved ones, while railway officials quickly mobilized to assess the situation and restore calm. Security personnel were also deployed to the scene to ensure the safety of stranded commuters.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the derailment, but authorities have assured passengers that investigations are underway. Meanwhile, the disruption has raised renewed concerns about safety on the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor, which has previously faced incidents of insecurity. Passengers were later evacuated, with alternative arrangements being made to continue their journeys.
