Possible Fulani Militia Attack in Benue Soon, Intelligence Alerts

A high-alert intelligence report has raised fears of an imminent assault on communities in Benue State, allegedly being plotted by Fulani militia groups. The confidential report, circulating among local security networks and civil society actors, warns that a coordinated attack could occur as early as Sunday, June 1st.

According to the report, Fulani herdsmen reportedly held a secret meeting today, Saturday, May 31, where plans for an offensive were discussed. Although the exact venue of the meeting was not disclosed, credible intelligence suggests that reinforcements have been mobilized from Plateau State to Akposegye settlement in the Ashaikyo District of Lafia Local Government Area, Nasarawa State a location not far from Benue’s border.

The alarm signals that the group may be targeting border settlements in Guma Local Government Area, including Yelwata, Ukohol, and Ukpiam, which are now on high alert. Other vulnerable local government areas highlighted in the report include Makurdi, Logo, and Ukum.

Intelligence sources described the planned attackers as “well-armed and in large numbers,” noting the presence of “high-caliber weapons and ammunition” among the militia. Sunday has been flagged as a potential attack day, possibly chosen due to the likelihood of mass gatherings in churches and markets.

“This Intel should be taken seriously,” a source familiar with the security situation warned. “The same individual who shared this alert previously predicted the Sankera attack with chilling accuracy.”

Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement. The report also calls on Nigeria’s security agencies to act swiftly by deploying advanced surveillance and combat technology to deter or intercept the planned invasion.

No official statement has yet been issued by the Benue State Government or the Nigerian Army, but community leaders are urging the state to prioritize the safety of rural dwellers who often find themselves on the frontline of such attacks.

As tension rises, many families in vulnerable communities are reportedly considering relocation or have begun early preparations to flee, fearing the worst.
