Pregnant Woman Loses Twins After Trekking in Labour Over ₦28,000 Delivery Fee

A tragic incident in Abuja has left many Nigerians heartbroken after a pregnant woman lost her twin babies while in labour.
According to reports, the woman was asked to provide a ₦28,000 delivery fee and a referral letter from her health centre before she could be admitted for childbirth. Unable to raise the money and with no baby items prepared, she resorted to trekking in labour in search of help, as her husband was said to be ill.
She was eventually spotted by a Good Samaritan, who rushed her to the health centre where it was confirmed that she was already in active labour. Despite efforts to save the babies, the twins sadly did not survive.
The incident has since sparked outrage across social media, with many Nigerians condemning the country’s failing healthcare system and the lack of affordable maternal care.
Here are some reactions:
• @chinellyempire: “I wept like a child yesterday when I watched this on Joy’s page. Ndo nwaanyi ibe m.. My country 😢😢.”
• @david_sonofdavid: “Why put someone in such a condition under the stress of looking for what is not lost? The stress itself could have caused complications.”
• @abigaildick5: “It’s that transferring from one hospital to another because of lack of bed 😢. This is too painful— not even one baby survived.”
• @mel_likes_fashion: “The babies were already in distress from all the stress she went through. An advanced hospital would have induced or performed a cesarean immediately.”
