Why I Chose to Keep My Marriage Private – Ruth Kadiri

Actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has shared the reason behind her decision to keep her marriage away from the public eye.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Dear Ife series hosted by Ifedayo Agoro, Kadiri described the choice as one of the best decisions she has ever made. She noted that maintaining privacy in her relationship has helped her stay grounded, focused, and free from external interference.

According to her, shielding her marriage from public scrutiny has allowed her and her husband to define their relationship on their own terms, without societal pressure.

“It’s been the best decision I’ve made because it has kept me grounded,” she said. “It allows me to define my relationship without outside influence. People don’t know him, so there’s no pressure on him.”

Kadiri emphasized that she’s not hiding her husband, but rather preserving a sense of normalcy and balance in their lives.

“My husband is not a secret. People who know me, know him. That’s enough. We go to church together, attend events—his photos sometimes get posted. At events I organize, he’s often present. If you check his social media, he only posts scriptures, not even personal pictures. He’s just a private person,” she explained.

She also touched on the rarely discussed issue of pressure that comes with being a married celebrity.

“There’s a lot of marital pressure that comes with fame, and we don’t talk about it enough. I’m grateful that, even with my thriving career, there’s an aspect of my life I can control and protect.”
