Protest Erupts on Epe-Ijebu-Ode Expressway Over New Toll Charges

Angry residents blocked the Ijebu-Ode–Mojoda–Epe Road on Saturday morning in protest against newly introduced tollgate fees by the Ogun State Government.

The demonstrators used tires and wooden planks to barricade the busy expressway, causing significant traffic gridlock and leaving hundreds of travelers stranded.

The protest, which began along the Fari section of the expressway, extended toward Mojoda in Epe, Lagos, disrupting the free flow of vehicles.

Protesters carried placards and chanted solidarity songs, expressing their displeasure over the increased toll rates.

A trailer driver, speaking during the protest, decried the toll as excessive, saying, “I paid ₦3,000 just this morning. How much are we even making that they want to take everything from us?”

Another commercial driver, Mr. Odinaka, vowed to join the protest despite being en route to another destination.

“They need to stop extorting poor Nigerians who are only trying to survive,” he said.
