Remains of missing Nigerian woman discovered in Illinois

Authorities in Illinois have confirmed that human remains found in the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve have been identified as those of 42-year-old Nigerian woman, Olasinmibo “Sinmi” Abosede, who had been missing since July 30.
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and the Naperville Police Department said the body was discovered around 1:55 p.m. on Thursday near 83rd Street and Chandelle Drive, after officers were led through a dense patch of tall grass.
Police noted that the clothing on the deceased matched what Abosede was last seen wearing. Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said while the remains are believed to be hers, final confirmation will come from the DuPage County Coroner’s Office.
“We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our condolences to the Abosede family. We appreciate everyone who assisted in the search and ask that the family’s privacy be respected during this time,” Arres said.
Abosede was last seen leaving her home west of Springbrook Golf Course for a walk. Surveillance footage captured her walking away from the neighborhood, and she was last sighted at about 9:20 a.m. on July 30 in the 2100 block of Sudbury Street. She was dressed in a black Adidas jacket, grey sweatpants, a black headscarf, and black Crocs.
Following her disappearance, police, volunteers, and canine teams had been combing the preserve in search efforts.

Forest Preserve District Police Chief David Pederson also expressed sympathy, saying, “Our hearts go out to Sinmi’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Authorities said there is no indication of foul play. An autopsy will be conducted by the coroner’s office as part of the ongoing joint investigation by forest preserve and Naperville police.
