Remi Tinubu Advocates for Reduction in Maternal and Child Mortality

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the President, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to decreasing maternal and child mortality rates through focused health interventions across Nigeria.
During a recent meeting with traditional rulers in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, Tinubu emphasized the critical role of grassroots involvement in tackling health issues, particularly concerning women and children.
She urged the monarchs to support the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Initiative by raising awareness in their communities about the availability of free healthcare services, including treatments for HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.
“We are here to encourage our frontline health workers by providing them with incentives and recognizing the invaluable contributions they make,” she stated. “We believe that with adequate support, the rates of maternal and infant mortality can be significantly reduced.
Additionally, we are working to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS due to the high rate of mother-to-child transmission.”
Tinubu highlighted the essential role that traditional institutions play in the success of these health interventions, especially in rural areas where they exert considerable influence.
Prof. Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, also spoke at the event, noting that over 8,500 frontline health workers have been trained in the North-East, including 1,300 in Taraba State.

He mentioned that more than 1,000 health facilities in the region receive quarterly funding from the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund, with 170 located in Taraba.
“These initiatives represent direct efforts from the Federal Government to ensure that resources are effectively delivered where healthcare services are provided,” he said.
Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba and his wife, Agyin Kefas, both expressed their gratitude to the First Lady for her visit and support for the state under the Renewed Hope Initiative.
As part of her visit, Mrs. Tinubu distributed 10,000 professional kits to midwives across the six North-East states and presented a N50 million cheque for the empowerment of 1,000 women in Taraba.
