Reno Omokri survives train crash abroad, reignites political debate

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, on Tuesday revealed that he narrowly escaped a serious train accident overseas, a disclosure that has stirred reactions online.

Omokri shared the news on his verified X account (formerly Twitter), stressing that the incident could have been politicised had it occurred in Nigeria.

“I’ve just been involved in a serious train crash abroad. If it happened in Nigeria, Peter Obi would blame President Tinubu and de-market Nigeria,” he wrote.

A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Omokri has remained outspoken on social media, frequently engaging in political debates and criticising opposition figures.

While expressing relief at surviving the crash, his remarks also rekindled his longstanding criticism of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Omokri has repeatedly accused Obi of portraying Nigeria negatively in international discourse, especially on governance, the economy, and infrastructure.

According to him, such remarks damage the nation’s image abroad.

Although details about the train crash—including its exact location and cause—remain unclear, Omokri assured his followers that he was safe.

His post has since sparked mixed reactions: while many expressed gratitude for his safety, others criticised him for linking a personal tragedy to partisan politics.
