Panic as Five Corpses Discovered on Lagos Riverbank

Tension has gripped communities in Ikorodu, Lagos State, after at least five bodies were recovered along the Oreta riverbank in Igbogbo on Wednesday.

This came barely 24 hours after a man was gruesomely murdered in Bayeku, where his wrist and leg were severed.

Findings by FCNN on Thursday suggest the incidents may be connected to the recent surge in cult-related violence across Lagos, though residents also suspect land disputes may have played a role.

While details remain unclear, locals confirmed that the Bayeku victim was not known to be a cultist. A resident said, “People believe his death is linked to land grabbing. They cut off his hands and legs before killing him.”

Another witness, Adeola, who was present when police visited Oreta, said, “Some believe the water brought the bodies to the bank, but we doubt it. Five corpses were recovered, and the cause of death is still unknown.”

Footage published by Naija Confra, a channel known for reporting cult activities, showed some of the victims lying lifeless near the riverside.

One wore a blue hoodie facedown, while another in a black-and-white shirt was surrounded by blood.

Confirming the development, the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Hammed Aroyewun, described the incident as “painful and unacceptable.”

His statement, issued by Chief Press Secretary Oluwaseun Ajayi, read in part:“The attack shook the community and heightened fears over safety. The council chairman, alongside security operatives, visited the scene to reassure residents of government’s firm stance on security. This administration will not relent until those behind these attacks are brought to justice.”

He further urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that joint patrols were being intensified in Baiyeku and neighbouring areas.

The fresh tragedy comes just days after three suspected cultists were killed during a festival on Lagos Island, where videos captured heavy gunfire as rival groups clashed.
