A charitable and non-profit organisation in Nigeria, Qatar Charity, has offered foodstuff to orphans, physically challenged and less privileged persons in Sokoto State.
Mr. Shu’aibu Atiku, the Organisation’s Head of Social Affairs, made this known on Wednesday in Sokoto, saying no fewer than 547 persons benefited including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Atiku added that the distribution had been concluded and beneficiaries had returned to their respective destination.
He noted that the gesture was targeted at solving the current hardship faced by the people.
The head of social affairs emphasized that the beneficiaries were part of the 5,030 persons selected for support by the organisation across the country.
While explaining further, he said that items distributed includes, rice, beans, semovita, vegetable oil, sugar and detergent in different categories.
The distribution exercise was witnessed by Sokoto State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr. Jabir Maihula, who described the initiative as a welcome development in view of the condition of some vulnerable persons in the society.
According to Atiku, Maihula commended the initiative which he said had augmented the state government’s support programmes.
“Maihila welcomed the initiative especially that it has been supporting IDPs and other less privileged persons with food items, clothes, medication and other assistance periodically,” Atiku observed.
However, the beneficiaries were urged by the officer to use the items received to support their families and restated the organisation’s commitment to providing more assistance.
