Scores injured as Molue crashes into median on Lagos expressway

No fewer than eight people were injured in the early hours of Friday when a commercial bus, popularly known as a Molue crashed into the median on the Ahmadiyya-Abule Egba expressway in Lagos.

The accident was learnt to have occurred during rush hour, causing heavy traffic disruption as emergency responders worked to rescue the victims and clear the site.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus, with registration number KTU 801 XM, was speeding when the driver lost control while trying to avoid a collision with another vehicle and pedestrians, leading the bus to hit the median and overturn.

However, officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) quickly arrived at the scene, facilitating the remover of the injured as well as restoring order.

The injured victims were five males and three females, including the driver, who suffered a fractured arm.

The injured were transported to the General Hospital in Ile-Epo for urgent treatment by Medical personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA General Manager, while speaking on the incident, expressed sympathy for the victims and wished them a speedy recovery.

He also emphasized the need for strict compliance to traffic regulations, particularly speed limits, to prevent such occurrences.

“This unfortunate incident highlights the dangers of speeding and the importance of vehicle maintenance. We urge all drivers to exercise patience and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey,” Mr. Bakare-Oki said.
