Nollywood Actor Femi Branch Faces Allegations of Assault, Long-Standing Debt

Popular Nollywood actor and politician, Femi Branch, is currently facing serious allegations involving an on-set assault and a decade-old unpaid debt.

The controversy began when Branch was accused of physically assaulting a First Assistant Director (AD) during a film shoot. Though he reportedly issued an apology to both the AD and the rest of the crew, the film production community, seemingly unsatisfied, released a statement condemning the incident.

The statement, which quickly went viral, read: “On 18 June 2025, during a production shoot, actor Femi Branch physically assaulted the First Assistant Director on set.

He slapped the 1st AD in front of witnesses, violating not only professional standards but basic human decency.

Under pressure, an assurance of apology was given. Filming resumed under the 1st AD’s instruction, and the actor later apologised to the 1st AD and the entire crew.

We commend the production team for standing firmly against violence and upholding respect and integrity on set.”

A video circulating on social media shows Branch appearing visibly agitated, being blocked from leaving the set by crew members.

In the clip, he is heard confronting the director, asking whether he had been brought on set “to be embarrassed.”

As the controversy gained momentum, a separate allegation surfaced online involving a financial dispute dating back more than a decade.

A user on social platform X, identified as Pastor Timilehin, accused Branch of owing his father, Tolulope Komolafe, a sum totaling N9.7 million.

According to Timilehin, Branch borrowed N1 million from Komolafe in 2011 to fund a film project, with an agreed interest of N50,000 per month.

He claimed that despite repeated efforts by his father to recover the money, the debt remained unpaid and had now accrued to N9.7 million.

In his post, Timilehin wrote: “Dear @femibranch, you borrowed N1 million from Mr Akin Tolulope Komolafe (my dad) in 2011 with an agreed interest of N50,000 monthly.

You have refused to repay the loan to date.

The accumulated amount now stands at N9.7 million.

My dad helped you when you needed it most. Now that things are going well for you, you have refused to pay back, despite his persistent efforts.

If my dad cannot recover the money, I will make sure either you or your children do.”

He also posted what he claimed to be a letter written by the Popular Nollywood actor and politician in December 2011, requesting the loan to finance his film project, Onile.

When contacted by reporters, Femi Branch declined to comment on both allegations, stating, “Please, I do not want to comment. I would appreciate it if you could respect that.”
