Several Hospitalised as Building Collapses in Lagos

Multiple people have been hospitalised following the collapse of a building in the early hours of Thursday along Adeniji Adele Road, Isale Eko, on Lagos Island.
The incident triggered a swift response from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigerian Police Force, and other emergency rescue teams.
According to updates shared by LASTMA on its verified X handle, several victims who were trapped beneath the rubble were rescued and promptly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
“An overnight building collapse occurred along Adeniji Adele Road, Isale Eko. LASTMA officials, alongside other emergency responders and the Nigerian Police, are on site. Traffic in the area remains unaffected as our officers are actively managing the flow. All rescued victims have been taken to the hospital for medical care,” the agency stated.
Although the number of casualties remains unconfirmed, search and rescue operations are ongoing at the scene.
To ease movement in the affected area, LASTMA has implemented traffic diversions.
“Our personnel have rerouted traffic from Zenith, through Oba’s Palace, to Enu Owa, to allow motorists reach their destinations,” the agency added.
While the exact cause of the collapse has not yet been determined, structural failure and deteriorating buildings are common issues in the locality.
