Shehu Sani’s call for performance reviews of governors, lawmakers sparks divided opinions.
The former Senator Shehu Sani, urging Nigerians to assess the performance of their state governors and National Assembly representatives rather than focusing solely on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, has sparked mixed reactions.
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District from 2015 to 2019, made the comment on his verified X account (formerly Twitter) amid the second anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration.
In his post, Sani wrote: “I have read a lot of positive and negative comments about the two years of President Tinubu. Please, be courageous enough to also write about the governor of your state, the senator and members of the House of Representatives and state House of Assembly members representing you. I know that some of them have online bullies and thugs who know your addresses, but just be bold to express your opinion. That’s your right.”

But while many Nigerians lauded the human rights activist for raising a valid point on accountability across all levels of government, others accused him of attempting to deflect criticism from the Federal Government, which they said had underperformed in its first two years.
Critics argued that the buck ultimately stops with the President, who leads the executive arm and controls major levers of national policy.
However, others supported Sani’s position, insisting that state governors, senators, and Assembly members also wield significant powers and public resources that must be subjected to scrutiny.
A former media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr Awosan Olusanya, echoed Sani’s sentiments, urging Nigerians to spread the weight of accountability across all elected officials.
Awosan further argued that the President inherited a deeply distressed economy from his predecessor, noting that Tinubu’s main failing is his inability to clearly communicate the extent of the fiscal and structural decay he met in office.
Meanwhile, Anambra State has been named one of Nigeria’s top three states in the 2025 e-governance report published by the Panorama and the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced Professional Studies Governance Performance Index.
According to the report published, yesterday, Anambra ranks alongside Lagos and Enugu as the leading states in adopting and implementing e-governance practices that foster accountability, transparency, and improved service delivery.
The report evaluated the states based on a comprehensive set of criteria, including website security, up-to-date content, public engagement, availability of online services, policy updates, and user accessibility.
