Speeding Truck Driver Dies in Ogun Road Crash

A fatal accident claimed the life of a truck driver on Thursday along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway in Ogun State.

The driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle due to excessive speeding, causing the truck to veer off the road near the Babcock slope.

According to a traffic report issued by Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the crash occurred around 3:35 p.m. and involved a blue Fiat truck with registration number AAA 176 YA.

Two adult males were in the vehicle at the time—one of whom, the driver, died at the scene.

The second occupant, identified as the truck’s motor boy, sustained severe injuries and was rescued by operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

He was taken to the Ikenne General Hospital for treatment.

“The crash was caused by excessive speed, which led the truck to skid off the road into a ditch,” Akinbiyi stated.

The deceased driver’s body was deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) morgue.

This incident follows another tragic accident reported earlier in the week, where at least 19 people were killed and eight others injured in a crash along the Lokoja-Obajana Road.
