Stormzy Handed Nine-Month Driving Ban for Using Phone While Driving
British grime sensation Stormzy has been disqualified from driving for nine months after being caught using a phone while driving a Rolls-Royce in west London.
The 31-year-old artist, whose real name is Michael Ebenazer Owuo Junior, pleaded guilty to the offense in a letter submitted to Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court. District Judge Andrew Sweet issued the ban and fined the rapper £2,010 ($2,498) after adding six penalty points to his licence. Stormzy had already accumulated six points from a previous speeding offense, bringing his total to 12, the threshold for disqualification under UK driving laws.
The judge criticized Stormzy’s actions, describing them as “dangerous and irresponsible” and noting that his driving record was “not good.”
Stormzy’s lawyer, Peter Csemiczky, stated, “My client accepts responsibility and apologises.”
