Super Eagles’ World Cup Hopes Brighten as Mouktar Muhammed Praises Chelle’s Leadership

The Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Football Association (FCTFA), Alhaji Adam Mouktar Muhammed, has lauded Super Eagles coach, Eric Sékou Chelle, for his strong leadership and tactical approach, which he believes will be crucial for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.

Speaking after the Super Eagles’ 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali, Muhammed expressed confidence in the team’s direction under Chelle, emphasizing that the Franco-Malian tactician’s man-management skills and commitment to Nigerian football will yield long-term benefits.

“Congratulations to Nigeria, the NFF, players, and fans for this decisive away victory against Rwanda,” Muhammed told Journalists. “It’s never easy to go and get such an important result, but the team showed hunger, grit, and composure.”

He highlighted Chelle’s hands-on approach and local presence, noting that this could positively impact the Nigerian league and help discover homegrown talent.

“The new coach has come in with a new spirit and close man-management approach. I seem to like him,” he said. “He could be a near-perfect fit if he keeps getting the right results.”

Despite the Super Eagles’ promising start, Muhammed cautioned that qualification is far from secured and urged the team to remain focused, starting with their next crucial fixture against Zimbabwe in Uyo.

“We are not out of the woods, but we have sent a signal to other teams that we mean business,” he continued. “If we win on Tuesday against Zimbabwe, it will be a massive boost.”

The FCTFA chairman stressed the importance of securing a World Cup spot for Nigeria’s golden generation of players, including Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, who deserve to showcase their talent on football’s biggest stage.

“Imagine a World Cup without this generation of talented Nigerian players? I can’t believe Osimhen has not experienced playing at that stage,” Muhammed remarked.

As the Super Eagles prepare for their next challenge, Muhammed, in the spirit of Ramadan, offered prayers for the team’s success, urging Nigerians to keep faith in their journey to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“Let’s keep believing and plan for every scenario ahead so we don’t slip up again,”* he concluded. “In the end, I believe the Nigerian spirit will lift us and take us to where we want to be.”
