Two reverend sisters abducted in Anambra regain freedom

Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli, the two Reverend Sisters, who were kidnapped in Anambra State about a week ago, have regained their freedom.

An unnamed judge abducted on Saturday while entering his house was also released on Sunday.

A source told Newsmen on Monday that the swift resolution was linked to the state’s newly introduced “Operation Udo Ga Achi” initiative, championed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

However, the release of the Reverend Sisters was confirmed in a statement issued by Sr. Maria Sobenna Ikeotuonye, IHM Secretary General and titled “Notification of Release and Expression of Profound Gratitude,”

“I bring to your notice in joy that our dear Sisters Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli, who were kidnapped in the evening of Tuesday, 7th January 2025, have been released unconditionally and in good health,” the statement read.

Sobenna Ikeotuonye expressed gratitude to God and the public for their prayers and support, saying, “May God forever be blessed through Mary our Mother.”

So far Anambra State has witnessed great kidnappings and violent attacks which has left residents to live in fear and critics have accused the state government of not doing enough to tackle the worsening insecurity.
