
Suspected Cable Thief Electrocuted in Calabar
Calabar, Cross River State an unidentified man was electrocuted in the early hours of today while allegedly attempting to steal high-tension cables along New Airport Road, near the Poultry Farm in Calabar South.
According to eyewitnesses, the man was trying to tamper with live electrical wires when he was fatally shocked. His body was later found hanging from the electric pole, causing panic among residents and drawing a crowd of onlookers.
Officials from the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) and security agents quickly responded to the scene to assess the damage and restore power to the area, which had experienced a temporary blackout.
The site has been cordoned off as investigations continue to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and whether the man was working alone.
This tragic event has once again raised alarms over the growing problem of cable theft and the deadly risks tied to vandalizing public infrastructure.
